The law of attraction has become the go-to belief system for people who want a different approach to getting what they want. In the popular movie the Secret, we learned that our thoughts are magnetic. They go out into the Universe and bring back the things we think about the most. Working with the Law of Attraction can get excellent results; however, some myths need to be busted to ensure we make the most of this magical law. Here are 5 law of attraction myths, busted!

  1. The LOA is for lazy people who want to get what they want without working
  2. Manifestation is always effortless
  3. The Law of Attraction Does Not Work for Everyone
  4. I must be positive all the time. If I feel negative or think negative thoughts, I will manifest bad things in my life.
  5. It’s so much easier to manifest small things than it is big things

The LOA is for lazy people who don’t want to get what they want without working

“Oh sure, I just have to think about one million dollars and poof, I’ll get a check in the mail from a long-lost uncle, yeah, right!” Comments like these are how sceptics view the LOA. We get it; it goes against the conventional wisdom of having to struggle and sacrifice to EARN your good life. And we like to hang onto convention because it’s all we know. This law of attraction myth is BUSTED!

But let’s just think about it for a second; how many people do you know that have worked hard all their lives yet still struggle to get by? If people became millionaires from handwork and effort, teachers, cleaners and construction workers would walk around with Birkin bags and Rolexes on their wrists. I know, we can look at successful people and think – “Oh, they’re so lucky they must’ve… had a head start, have an unfair advantage, come from a good neighbourhood, got some inheritance. The reality is that 88% of all millionaires are self-made, meaning they did not inherit their wealth. LOA says there must be more to it, and there is.

LOA doesn’t have anything against applying yourself and taking action; in fact, it WILL not work unless you take action (more on that later.) But the type of action you take is crucial to get results. If you’re clear on what you want (one million dollars) and believe in your ability to manifest it, you will receive guidance about which steps to take from your intuition. That is what we call inspired action.

Look At Success for Clues

If you listen to founders of multi-billion-dollar companies, you will hear that is exactly how they did it. Their belief in their vision and taking inspired action ultimately guided them to success. An excellent example is Sara Blakely, founder of SPANX, whom Forbes named the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. During an interview with Oprah, she told the talk show host that she almost gave up after a year of product development. In a last-ditch effort, she asked the Universe for another sign to keep going. (Notice she didn’t ask for a billion dollars? She was just looking for the sign.)

That day, she flipped on the television, and Oprah was on, telling her audience she cuts the feet out of her pantyhose, especially when wearing sandals. Blakely explained there was no turning back. She was making SPANX happen, despite the constant rejection she received. There are many things I would say about Sarah Blakely, but being lazy is not one of them, and the people who use the law of attraction are some of the most driven people on the planet.

Manifestation will always feel effortless.

The law of attraction myth that it’s ALWAYS easy is FALSE! The truth is once you embark on the process of consciously co-creating your life with the Universe, you will encounter some of your toughest challenges. This may mean encountering people and challenges that can make your goals seem out of reach and make you want to give up. Sure, the law of attraction will bring you what you want, but it will also bring you all the lessons you need to learn to evolve into a person who can handle the things you want.

For example, want to be in a loving relationship? You may need to identify, accept, and clean up those parts of you that are not loving, which may mean a relationship that doesn’t work out, to learn how YOU can change and grow past your own negative beliefs and patterns. Want to be rich? You may have to learn how to value your ideas and yourself more. The Universe may conveniently place a boss or co-worker who doesn’t value you smack dab in your path. Each wish or desire holds the key to aspects of yourself that need healing, which is no easy feat! But if you agree to go on the ride and intend to learn and heal from setbacks without getting distracted from your goal, you will be richly rewarded.

When you become aware of your emotions, learn to make responsible choices, and strive to create with the intentions of your soul, you encounter every part of your personality that opposes those intentions and are given the opportunity to challenge and change them.

The Law of Attraction Does Not Work for Everyone

The law of attraction myth that some people are special and it doesn’t work for everyone is FALSE! LOA works for everyone; however, without understanding the critical elements required to harness its power, some people may be left scratching their heads and giving up hope. The three requirements are:

  1. Ask – Clearly define what it is you want to achieve and would like to receive
  2. Believe– Have belief in yourself, you are worth it, you deserve it, and it is possible
  3. Receive – Act as if you have it; become the person who has already received this gift

Most people fail because they lack belief and allow fear and doubt to dominate their thinking. They also struggle with receiving. They wait for their circumstances to change BEFORE they FEEL the feeling of their wish fulfilled. When the reason most people want anything is for the feeling, they will have when they get it. By allowing yourself to feel, love, abundance or acceptance NOW, you are paving the way for that reality.

So YES, it works for everyone, but only if the above three steps are completed with the beliefs and emotions that align with the manifestation.

I have to be positive all the time. If I feel negative feelings or think negative thoughts, I will manifest bad things in my life

Being human means experiencing the full emotional scale! You may have already noticed this. Many believers of the LOA fear negative emotions, thinking they will attract bad things into their lives. Of course, if you have developed thought patterns that your life is always difficult and terrible things ALWAYS happen to you, you will look for things in your life to make that true on a subconscious level.

Have you ever had one of those days where your hair looked horrible, you were late for work, got a flat tire and spilled coffee on your white shirt? There was a string of “why me” experiences one after another UNTIL you just had to laugh, and finally, things improved. However, negative emotions are not always bad things; in fact, they show up as a part of you that may need to be healed or a lesson that needs to be learned OR it can simply be what you are experiencing.

The more you deny this part of yourself, the more persistent negativity can become. By having more acceptance of ALL of your emotions (especially the negative ones), you will experience LESS resistance to reality and put yourself into the receiving mode. A few bad days will not turn the LOA against you.

It’s so much easier to manifest small things than it is big things

The Universe doesn’t understand BIG or SMALL, or HARD or EASY; it’s all the same and can be accessed and brought into 3D reality by following the three steps in the above point. This Law of Attraction Myth would make you believe the manifestation’s size is important. However, the truth is we could just as easily manifest a mansion as a parking spot, everything is possible, and we live in a world of infinite potential. But since we’re spiritual beings having a *human* experience, our learned beliefs and patterns can get in the way; we think things are “out of reach” or “not possible for someone like me.”

Starting with manifesting something SMALL can be easier for some of us and is a great way to prove to ourselves that we CAN manifest and trust that it is possible for those “BIG” things too. But neither need to be difficult.

The key is using the right words, thoughts, and feelings. It’s about continuously shifting from doubt and negativity to belief and positivity. It’s a natural human experience to question and be sceptical. I get it, this is out-there stuff, BUT if we look for clues of people who have lived by this philosophy and SUCCEEDED, we can embrace a sense of play and become our own LOA experiment. What do we have to lose?

Having success manifesting small things can grow your confidence with manifesting and your skills. It gets easier with time as you have more experience and learn more about how you work with the principles and techniques.

“The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.”
